MertiGear's Vector Power Meter - Beta test unit on show

I've previously mentioned a passing interest in a new type of power meter that's being developed by MetriGear. For more info on the design and other such technical specifications, please head over to the site I've linked to above - such things are way out of scope for this blog.

Anyway, I'm intrigued by the concept so it's great to see a beta, or test version of the power unit and how it fits into the pedal and crank.

So clearly, as I said above this is a test version and I'm quite sure the unit will loose some of its weight before it goes into production. That said, I am starting to wonder how vulnerable the unit is liable to be to road detritus. Given adequate protection and perhaps even making it IP54 (or greater) complaint would certainly out such fears to bed.

In any case, It's great to see this product within the build stage as up until now I'd only seen it via a Photoshop image. All the best and good luck to MetriGear and of course. If they need any Beata testers my hand is firmly in the air.
